Tobi Lou Showcases the Same Old Jeans to Toronto Fans During his World Tour
Written by: Amber N.

On a chilly Friday evening, amongst the relentless Toronto traffic, Tobi Lou transported a
neon-lit room on College Street into a universe entirely his own. Entering Hard Luck Club, you could feel the anticipation in the air. Bathed in hazy pink and blue light, the intimate room was packed with fans chanting the artist’s name before he even appeared. Tobi Lou took the stage at 8:15 p.m., opening the Toronto show of his Same Old Jeans World
Tour with “eating good.” From the first moments, it was evident that Lou is meant for the stage. He made performing look effortless, weaving between melodic verses, sharp raps and bursts of dancing as though the crowd were simply an extension of his energy.

The first half of the show drew heavily from Lou’s recent mixtape, Same Old Jeans (Ripped
Jeans), a tribute to the beloved K-pop group NewJeans. “bittersweet victory,” “bunny ears,”
“extremely shy” and “getaway driver” were standouts, showcasing his versatile delivery and
infectious stage presence. As the night progressed, Tobi Lou dug deeper into his extensive catalog. Sleeper hits like “the Office,” “I Was Sad Last Night I’m OK Now,” “Ringo Starr” and “Waterboy” were met with crowds who knew seemingly every word. For nearly two hours, the setlist moved freely between old favorites and newer releases, making the show feel less like a tightly scripted
performance. Instead, being in the audience felt like making a late-night driving playlist with
a friend. Between explosive performances, Tobi Lou joked with the crowd, took requests,
danced with fans and spoke with an ease that erased the usual distance between artist and
audience. At times vulnerable and at others playfully chaotic, he seemed to operate on the
exact same frequency as the room.

Tobi Loud also made his affection for Toronto clear throughout the night. During one
speech, he reflected on his connection to the city. Having the crowd scream the lyrics to
‘Uncle Iroh’, in which Toronto is mentioned in the lyrics, feels like the perfect song to
celebrate the artist's triumphant return.
The Same Old Jeans tour marks the Chicago-raised rapper’s return to Toronto after three
years. For fans who had been waiting, nearly two immersive hours with Tobi Lou felt like
both a reunion and the perfect way to cap off the summer.
